Omicron Software Systems began life in 1988 as a privately-held New Jersey corporation founded to offer the software development services of its CEO, chief cook and bottle-washer. The company’s primary focus at that time was UNIX kernel development and maintenance under contract to Bell Laboratories and subsequent trustees of the UNIX System V intellectual property. The company was dissolved in 2012, but its owner continues to do business as the no-longer-incorporated Omicron Software Systems.

The company logo, a stylized capital O representing the Greek letter omicron, was devised in 1979 for a predecessor organization long since defunct.

The domain basename nomicro is an anagram (in fact, a rotate-right) of omicron. It has no deep philosophical significance.
